The Fence
In The Yard – ITY04
Another image from last Friday when we had that rare sunny afternoon. I thought I would include a little more of the landscape to show what a beautiful day it was. This is the type of winter day I can get behind, not those grey, cloudy days. 🙂

In The Yard – ITY03
I might be taking liberty with my definition of “in the yard” for this one but since I walked across the road into the pasture to get this image I’m calling it part of my series. LOL After quite a few days of gloomy weather a brilliant sunny afternoon carried me home from work so I quickly suited up in my winter shoveling clothes, grabbed the camera and ventured outside. I could live with a little warmer temperatures but the sun was nice. I really liked how the shadows of the grass were playing across the whole field and I tried to focus on that as I composed this scene.

Video Games

Today brought another good day to try more indoor still photography. I thought I would work on another image for my new Collections Series. Creating these images is an attempt to come to terms with my bad habit of collecting things. I just went through my closet yesterday cleaning out some of the unwanted collections that have been accumulating inside (empty boxes from various purchases, magazines I’ll never read again, etc.). It felt good to clean out the junk.
Today’s image is from another of my obsessions – video games. I grew up as the video game industry was just beginning. I never was able to have the Atari 2600 or the Nintendo Entertainment System, although I had friends who did so I made it a point to stay friends with them. I did have some of the Mattel and Coleco handheld electronic games. I wish I had the foresight to keep those games. I bet today they would be something special or at least a curiosity for my kids.
I wasn’t able to disassemble my video game center to show everything in this image but I did manage to collect quite a few representatives. With both kids home I lost my extra room which doubled as a makeshift studio for me. I managed OK in the corner of the bedroom (had to keep Oliver away) but had a little more difficulty then necessary bouncing the flash properly. Not much processing applied to this image. A few tweaks in Lightroom and then a couple more in Photoshop.
Opening Next Season
Asia, Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World
Only 130 days to go. Yes, you guessed it, or was that a heavy sigh I just heard? Believe it or not but it will be just about 11 months between trips to Disney for me by the time I get back. It was not for lack of trying though. The trip in October was cancelled due to scheduled training for work (which was eventually rescheduled) and the trip in December, although technically not to Disney (I would have found a way), was side railed for me by work once again.
All my plans are in motion. I have the hotel stays booked. Yes, plural. I am using the last of this year’s DVC points for three nights at the Beach Club and the first four nights I am staying for the first time at Port Orleans Riverside. Initially wanted the French Quarter but who am I to argue with discounted rooms.
The timing in May could not be any better. I will be able to catch the last weekend of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and the first weekend of Hollywood Studios Star Wars Weekend. I pulled this same double dip in 2012 and was lucky enough to pull it off again. I had mentioned this trip to one of my Disney photography friends and she is coming down at the same time. There are already five of us working on meeting up for some photography fun and I have a feeling the group will grow before May.
As it is never too late to start thinking about what images and/or scenes you want to capture while in the parks I was reviewing some of my old images. I came across this view from my trip in March 2014 which I had flagged in Lightroom. Tonight was a good night to process it.
You come upon this scene as you walk past the temple shrine on your way to Expedition Everest. To me it highlights the amount of detail the Imagineers work into the parks to complete the atmosphere. The average park guest probably does not even realize what they hurry past on their way to the roller coaster. It is these types of details that I love to find and capture with my camera.

There was an interesting article that passed through one of my streams, I wish I could remember when and where, that showcased a photographer’s images of various collections. I didn’t think much about it other than I thought it was an interesting idea. Well, apparently it made more of an impression then I thought. Thinking about what I wanted to work on today the idea of the collections jumped right to the front of the bus.
I have to admit I am a bit of a collector. My biggest exercise of late has been cleaning house to remove the truly junk collections and keep only the gems. But on those days that I do not venture out into cold of winter I thought capturing some of those collections would be a good project.
So, I present to you the first in my Collections series… Oh, come now, you had to guess it would be Disney related. LOL
