Chittenango Falls State Park
Watkins Glen State Park
The gorge trail at Watkins Glen State Park offers truly amazing views. It is always incredible to me as I walk the trail how deep into the gorge the water has cut its path. The varying layers of rock marking off the passage of time.
This view is slightly downstream from the classic Rainbow Falls picture spot. You can get a feeling for the depth of the gorge by the photographer grabbing a shot of the falls in the middle, left of the image. If you have a chance to visit this park, I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed.
Canalfest, Bellamy Harbor Park, Rome, NY
Canalfest 2017 start on August 3rd and will run through August 5th. I haven’t always been a supporter of the events of summer in Rome but I have to admit the city has been doing a lot good work sprucing up the place, especially down at Bellamy Harbor Park. I also found out that there is a photography contest during the Canalfest so I actually submitted five images. I checked on some of the past winners and discovered your images do not all have to be about the Erie/Barge Canal but I only thought it appropriate to have a couple of mine showing off the canal as it has provided me quite a lot of photographic scenes over the years.
I selected what I thought was a good representation of my work (it was tough but I did refrain from picking any of my Disney images… LOL!). Here are the images I used:
I truly had no aspirations of winning anything. I honestly spent more money in buying the frames, getting the pictures printed and submitting then to the contest than I could have won. The thrill was having my pictures on display for everyone to see. Canalfest opened at 5pm yesterday, so after work I stopped by to see all the photos. I didn’t get a call during the day which is what the winners would have gotten so I was curious to see the everything. As I walked around looking at all the photos I was surprised to find this:
I can honestly say I am more impressed with this ribbon than if I won, placed or showed… I’m really happy it was one of the canal related images. Not going to lie, I walked around the park a little taller the rest of the evening.
I also managed to stop at the park on my way to work yesterday morning. The sun and clouds were conspiring to make it a beautiful sunrise. I pulled off a seven image pano of Bellamy Harbor Park. I thought it was nice to show off one of my favorite spots for pictures…
