I started Saturday at the Utica Marina but I ended up at my favorite stomping grounds, Delta Lake State Park. Practically balmy conditions made it easy to walk around the park with the snowshoes. It didn’t hurt that the sky has some great clouds to catch the light from the setting sun. Also, I’m always a sucker for a good reflection, even if it is only a muted trail of sunlight.

Yesterday was a get out of bed and find the sunrise morning. After working on my image for yesterday’s post I gathered up my gear and headed East in search of the sunrise. I could see the colors were going to be great but I needed a suitable subject. I wanted the barge canal in the image as I thought there would be open water somewhere along its route. The first few locations did not work for me, either the sunrise was in the wrong location or the ice was still on the canal. Finally I found my prize at the Utica Marina.

I’m back to the oil cans. I had spied this can during one of my trips to The Eclectic Chic antique store but my hands were already full! Luckily, someone was paying attention and I found this one under the Xmas tree this year. Apparently I was a little better behaved this year… LOL
I have been playing with the lighting and tried for more side light in this picture. I wanted to add some shadowing which I believed would give the can more depth. I’m not sure I succeeded but it was fun (and frustrating) trying to figure it all out. I think I need a few more items for my “studio” (OK, corner of my office on a TV tray) in order to make the post processing a little easier. Takes my a little bit of time to mask out the backdrop.
