Lighthouse on the Rise

Crescent Lake, Walt Disney World

It wasn’t until my fourth morning at the Beach Club that I was able to photograph the sunrise I had been waiting to see. The first morning was covered in fog and didn’t burn off until an hour after sunrise. The next two days were covered in clouds and although I grabbed some images, they were not up to my expectations. The third morning was down right frigid and I refused to venture outside (~38F).

Thursday morning was the one. As soon as I walked out the lobby door I knew the potential for a brilliant sunrise was in the air. There were enough clouds to make the sky interesting and the wind was non-existent. When the first color started to appear I was running all along the waterfront capturing different views of the sunrise. This is the one I liked the best even though it breaks a few of the photography “rules”.

Hollywood Holidays

Echo Lake, Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World

I had to wait what seemed like an eternity for the tree lights to come on. The park announced the lighting of the tree at 5:15pm but it wasn’t until 5:48pm that they eventually came on. To be honest, by the time the lights came on the color in the sky was gone, but an image from five minutes earlier had the sky I wanted. So technically, this view didn’t happen last night… 🙂

Sleeping DiVine

Oasis Area, Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World

DiVine is a performer at the Animal Kingdom that is tough to find… especially because she is so good at hiding. DiVine is a leafy character that usually blends in perfectly with the vegetation. When you do find her it is a rare treat to watch her move and interact with guests. I was lucky enough to find DiVine sleeping near the entrance to the park.

Epcot Christmas

Epcot, Walt Disney World

It feels like it has been forever since the last time I was in Walt Disney World for the Christmas holidays. After my trip last fall I decided I had seen enough of the Autumn decorations and wanted to experience Christmas again while in the World. Disney sure does know how to decorate for the holidays.

I also broke with my tradition this year and visited Epcot first! Normally I head to the Magic Kingdom on my first day but with the park closing early for the Christmas party, my luggage still in transit (my tripod is in my suitcase) and with me staying at the Beach Club Resort (right behind Epcot), I chose to switch it up a little this year. Epcot is always decked out for the holidays. I especially was looking forward to the Holiday Entertainment & Storytellers at each country around World Showcase. I remember experiencing the holiday stories from each country with the kids when they were younger and I wanted to see them again (more to come on that topic).

Here are a couple of images from around Future World and Showcase Plaza…

The End at the Beginning

Taughannock Falls State Park

I was looking through my photos for the year and found this one I had marked for processing but never finished. This is the small cascade waterfall at the end of Taughannock Creek before it empties into Cayuga Lake. It is also the first thing you see when you walk the gorge trail at the park. When the flow is the right level, this waterfall is the first photographed when I visit the park.
