Sculptures at Dawn

Griffiss International Sculpture Garden

Yesterday I headed out to capture early morning images. I didn’t have a specific destination in mind but thought I would head down toward Utica and see if any of my normal spots along the way held anything interesting. Really I was going to wander and settle for pot luck.

As I drove through Griffiss Business and Technology Park (they really need a cooler name) I headed over to check out the NYSTEC building that was recently added. I had heard that it is lit up pretty cool. It didn’t disappoint but there was still splotchy patches of grass and the front of the building faces East with the sky behind the building still a little boring. Later. I’ll get that image another time.

On my way out of the park I passed the Griffiss International Sculpture Garden and was reminded how some of the sculptures are illuminated at night. Seeing those sculptures and realizing I could get them silhouetted against the Eastern sky had me turning the car around. It ended up being a great morning…

as goes the summer…

Another of my “finds” from my walk around the building during lunch the other day. I processed this one using one of the abstraction styles I have been working on. Not the version I have created for the watercolor project but one of my earlier attempts.

Come into my Parlor

Squared – SQ133

You need to take the time to do nothing. The work day can be busy, insanely busy, and sometimes it feels like there are not enough hours in the day. On those days, you have to take time to do nothing. Giving yourself 10, 15, 20 minutes of doing nothing can help you get through that hectic day.

I didn’t think of this on my own. I read it the other day and then realized those days where I felt best once I got home were the days I broke up the work hours with a little bit of nothing. Maybe I sat at my desk and stared up at the ceiling tiles. Or I went for a couple of laps around the building during lunch. Whatever you do, you are not thinking about work. Let your mind wander. Maybe read a chapter in a book, sit outside and watch the clouds roll by, or grab your camera and see what you can find.

The last one is what I did yesterday. I walked the periphery of the parking lot lot looking for subjects for my macro lens. It was a great way to break up my day. I also found quite a few interesting images. I found this spider in the bushes in the front of the building…

Peaceful Bellamy

Bellamy Harbor Park

I passed by the park about 30 minutes prior to the sunset after a nice dinner at the Rail and Canal restaurant. I stopped at Ace Hardware few a few items and when I exited the sky was ablaze! I jumped in the car and drove back to Bellamy Harbor Park hoping I could beat the sunset. I didn’t quite catch the best of the colors but it was worth the stop…

Pete’s Silly Sideshow

Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World

During my August trip, this was my first evening at the Magic Kingdom in between the rain. Everything about this area really stands out for me. I love the circus theme. The colors were working well with the sunset sky. Pete is larger than life but fits with the show. So glad I bought the wide-angle lens. I used every bit of it for this one…
