Flat Rock Park
It was another nice day on Friday. I didn’t want it to end sitting on the couch. After getting the boys fed I returned to Flat Rock Park to play in the water. I was hoping the park would be as empty as it was on Thursday but I could see as I drove in there was a lot of activity around the water.
My first inclination (and why is this how I am now?) was to drive through the park and go find another activity. I think the design of the park will work in my favor. The road through the park is one way, and you have to drive completely around to exit. As I approached the waterfall area on the opposite side of the creek, I made up my mind not to let a few people stop me. I parked the car, grabbed the tripod, threw the camera bag over my shoulder and headed to the creek to explore.
There were a group of young kids playing on the rocks near the water where I really wanted to setup my camera. As much as I remember those days, I wanted them to go play somewhere else so I could have the spot to myself. Luckily, as I crossed the stone bridge over the creek (see these older posts featuring the bridge, Autumn Bridge & Bridge) I thought this area might produce a few interesting images.
OK. Not terrible. What else is there to see?
Interesting. A little too much shine on the water. What does this look like from the other side?
I like this one. Anything else to see?
I eventually walked to the area near the kids. I’m unsure if their mom(?) saw me and told them to play in another area, or if she finally thought they were getting dangerously close to falling on the rocks and sliding down the water. Either way, I had the area to myself for a few minutes. Time for me to play.
Those images can wait for another day..
Go enjoy your Saturday.

Wonderful images!
Love the rushing water. You really captured the feel of it. Today is the first day of February break here in MA. Hoping to do something with my camera this week. There are some interesting river formations with ice I was thinking of trying to shoot.
My son, who is in Albany, is getting some snow this weekend. Any of that reaching you? I look forward to what you find with the ice and the river.
Yup, we’ve got about 4″ on the ground this morning I’d say. Currently sleeting on top of that – yuck!
As I’m typing this reply, I remember a question I think I meant to ask in a previous post: you mentioned “getting the boys fed” before going out to take some pictures. Who are “the boys”? Cats? Fish? Birds? Ever post any pictures of them?
My boys are cats. I’ve had Oliver 10 years, Milo 9 years and Dunkin for 7 years. I don’t normally post any pics of them because I usually only grab a phone pic now and then.
You are right, that third one is wonderful. The rest are good too. Glad you got out and had some fun with it, kids or no kids. Once, when I was walking Katie at the park in Auburn I saw a whole preschool class toddling toward me, and us with nowhere to retreat. I tried to hide in a grove of pine trees, but there’s no escaping 4 year olds. The two teachers were busy on their phones and not paying attention when the class started running toward us. Katie didn’t really like to be petted, though she’d tolerate it if I asked her to. But a whole class? Just before the first little boy reached us the teachers noticed and one of them yelled “FREEZE”! And miraculously all the kids stopped in their tracks. Then the first one asked politely if he could pet my dog and I said yes, carefully from the side, which he did. And then one by one, all 20 of them stepped up and patted her softly on the side and then they went on their way. Katie got extra treats for being a good sport.
Great of Katie to be such a good sport. Not sure I would have handled 20 four year olds very well… lol
