Sunday was the day to finally visit The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY.  I am still working on the images from the center and you will have to wait for a later post to learn more.  The drive to the center was very scenic and provide numerous opportunities to stop and capture the beautiful views of the numerous lakes in the Adirondacks.

I spotted this lone, little island in Tupper Lake as the drive up was almost over.  Obviously it was a necessary stop on the way home.  The first image is a view from a small scrap of land jutting out into to lake accessible from the roadside parking area.  It is not the view I saw on the drive up but I liked the profile of the island and tree.  This is actually the second shot of this view.  The first was rather bland but as I turned to walk away the sun chose that moment to peak out from behind a cloud and illuminate just the island.

The second image is the one that caught my eye initially.  I had to walk a little ways up the road from the parking area in order to get the little island between the two islands in the distance.  BTW – there are homes on both of those islands!  I wasn’t rewarded by the sun with some singular illumination in this image but the clouds make up for it I think.  🙂

Thunderstruck

My apologies to AC/DC up front. The title felt appropriate.  Here is an image of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that I decided to play with a little.  The original image was not terrible but it was a bit lackluster.

I wanted more drama in the sky which gave me the idea of ‘tweaking’ it myself in Photoshop.  I placed the original sky on a separate layer, enlarged it a little and then applied a radial blur.  The origin of the blur is a third from the bottom in the center.  This location gave the sky a more natural movement and highlighted the silhouette of the ride the way I envisioned it.

Peaceful Reflection

Old Erie Canal Park

I hadn’t been over to the Old Erie Canal Park during lunch in what seemed like forever.  It was time for me to get off my lazy butt during lunch and enjoy the scenery available to me.  I typically do not venture far along the canal trail as I can find enough to entertain me right at the aqueduct.  I did run into a couple of volunteers who were offering water and an opportunity to help in the expansion of the trail system between Dewitt and Camillus.  Considering how much I enjoy the trails as a diversion from work and while I am home, I was more than happy to help out.

After doing my part, I ventured down into Butternut Creek to get some images of the aqueduct.  I must have hundreds by now but I never fail to find something new to capture.  On this day there was a brilliant reflection in the water.  By combining my polarizing filter with the 4-stop ND filter I was able to get a 2.5 second exposure which enhanced the reflection in the moving water.  I decided not to fully engage the circular polarizer as doing so would have cut some of the reflection and enhance the view of the creek bed.  I wanted the bright reflection!
