Big Bend, Letchworth State Park
I was running around the Big Bend area of Letchworth State Park for quite a while on Saturday. There were so many views to capture. I knew as soon as the sun rose above the horizon I would have another set of images to capture. I followed the stone safety wall further into a wooded area and found this view as the sun was peeking around the gorge wall. I’ll say it again… definitely worth getting up early and the three hour drive.
Letchworth State Park
I’m not positive about the early bird but if I want to catch a sunrise at Letchworth State Park I know I have to get up pretty early. It is a three hour drive from my house and with the sunrise at 5:30am I decided to set the alarm for 1:30am and be on the road by 2am. It was so worth it!
The colors in the sky before sunrise were absolutely beautiful. There was barely anyone on the road or in the park this early so I had the place to myself. My first destination was Big Bend. This section of the park can be viewed from multiple locations but I was shooting for the observation area next to the Castile entrance. As I drove toward my goal I noticed a car pulled off to the side of the road. When I was even with the car I caught the view of the gorge and quickly changed my plan.
The car was another photographer who was more of an early bird than me. He was already set up and his camera was taking a time-lapse sequence. We exchanged good mornings and I went about getting a few images. As you can see in the image, there was a few low clouds near the base of the gorge and the sky was on fire. This view justified the early morning alarm and the three hour drive.
I posted on a few of my social media sites a quick phone image of this view but it did not do it any justice. I’ll be posting more as I process the “keepers” from my early morning excursion to the Grand Canyon of the East.

Oh, you are so in trouble! If you thought I went overboard with the dandelions, wait until you see me with the daisies. I was standing in the kitchen working on my dinner when I noticed small white spots out in the pasture behind the house. At first I thought dandelions, but no, too white… daisies!
As soon as dinner was done I grabbed the camera with the macro lens and walked out into the field to find me some daisies. As luck would have it, even the wind died down for me. Mother Nature was obviously on my side or she is a fan of my daisy pictures. Either way, the hunt was on… and the summer of overloaded daisy pictures has begun.
Cascadilla Gorge Trail, Ithaca, NY
The first time I visited the Cascadilla Gorge Trail it was in the process of being renovated. This point in the trail was as far as you could hike as the stairs were being rebuilt. I didn’t think much of this location until my trip to Ithaca two weeks ago. I wanted to explore a different area rather than re-walk familiar ground… OK, I didn’t want to hike Robert Treman State Park. That hike always kills me. There I said it, are you happy?
Monorail Monday
Epcot, Walt Disney World
Although Epcot is full of places to explore with a camera, I always find myself chasing the monorails around Future World. I enjoy trying to find a different view to capture as the monorails glide along the beam. I don’t remember if I heard this from one of the numerous Disney photographers you can follow online but I have tried to stand by this saying… “if your picture is going to have the monorail beam in the view, there better be a monorail on it…”
Some of my monorail images are photos of luck. I happen to be in a particular location as the monorail is passing through. This image is one of those lucky images. I was on the bridge next to Test Track on my way toward the Odyssey when I heard a monorail approaching behind me. I had been admiring the flowers planted along the bank for the Flower & Garden Festival and quickly decided to go as wide as possible to include the vibrant colors. I also like the tree…
