Walt Disney World
In my year in review post I mentioned I currently have a love/hate relationship with Walt Disney World. I am still a fan and I will be taking more trips to the world especially after being rejuvenated by the excellent Disney+ series The Imagineering Story. My current frustration is with the decline in services at the parks and resorts. The little things that use to make the place extra special are slowing going away. Anyway, it could also be an overload condition from way to many trips…
I did a little something different this year as I processed my images. I finally worked out how to turn my favorite images into postcards. I have mentioned this in a few other posts throughout the year but I really stepped it up late in the year. I started with a group of ten images and created a set of postcards. I’m still working out how best to offer them to any interested parties but I wanted to share my results with everyone.

After a long list of Autumn images from my previous weekend excursion I thought I would end the week on a slightly different tone. I returned to vacation at Walt Disney World to find this one of the Casey Jr. Splash and Soak station in the Fantasyland section of the Magic Kingdom. If I am remembering correctly the rains had stopped briefly and I was running around grabbing images with as many reflections in the water as I could. I loved the blue hour sky blending perfectly with the colors of this area…

I have been working on a way to process my Disney images to look like a painted postcard. I tried a watercolor look and originally was working in that direction, but I think I finally found the process I want to use. I’ll admit, I’m no painter and I don’t believe my skills with Photoshop or Illustrator warrant me even attempting something in either of those applications.
I have owned the Topaz Labs suite of applications ever since I won a contest on Google+ six or seven years ago. The latest version, Topaz Studio 2, has a lot of ways for me to release my creativity. I only had to get past the fact that I am using the tools at my disposal, which include my camera, to present images the way I see them in my head. Even when that vision wasn’t completely clear.

Something Different
Letchworth State Park
I have been fascinated with the Prisma app for the way I can change a photograph into something different. My issue is the app is only for my phone. I have been working on utilizing Topaz Labs Abstraction plugin which is now incorporated into their Studio 2 program. My hope is I can arrive at an image that looks like a watercolor painting.
This is one of my early attempts. The original image, New Bridge, was captured last year at Letchworth State Park. I still have some refinements to the process I need to try but I think I am getting closer…

Yesterday was full of activity. I made my way up to the Remsen Barn Festival of the Arts in the morning and was able to squeeze in a trip up to Pixley Falls State Park in the afternoon. I should have been completing something for work but it was too damn nice out to be thinking that way… LOL
I came back from Pixley Falls with some great images. I was finally able to get an image of the main falls without any people in the scene. I processed the image normally but thought I would try something different. I watched a video Saturday night from Pat Saizan Photography on her workflow to create a watercolor image from one of her photographs. I really liked what she created.
It has taken me a couple of tries today to create something similar and I think I still need some more practice but it was fun learning a different technique. Normally I would use one of my plug-in applications but this new method allowed for more control over the final product. I’ll try not to overwhelm everyone with this new “art” I’m creating… 🙂
