Sunrise Challenges

Sebastian Inlet, FL

I’m in Florida this week! I flew down on Saturday and will fly back on Saturday. I’m stay at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort as a middle location for my exploring along the east coast. Weather has been in the low 90’s but being at the beach has the advantage of a nice breeze off the ocean. My plan is to hit my favorite spots for sunrise and sunset images and be lazy during the middle of the day. I’ve already finished my second book… LOL

My second excursion for the sunrise was to Sebastian Inlet. There is a nice break wall that offers a great silhouette against the morning sun. I was running back and forth grabbing images of the rising sun in the east and the setting full moon in the west. It was a great morning!

Beach Morning

Juno Beach, Florida

I’ve been doing some more research for my trip in May. Looking for places along the Florida coast to explore. I definitely want to make it back to Juno Beach. Not only is there a pier for me to photograph, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is located there. I stumbled across the center on my first visit and brought my daughter back to see the turtles when we stayed with Grandma for Christmas. Definitely a place worth seeing again.

Hopefully I’ll manage a sunrise or two at the pier…

No Wake

Castaway Point Park, Palm Bay, FL

I think I’m stuck on this upcoming trip to Florida. Maybe it is the so-so weather here in New York that has me unmotivated. I don’t know, it has been quite a few days since I ventured out with the camera.

It is raining right now. Supposed to rain all day. The forecast is looking like it will hit 50F today. The weather service issued a flood watch until Friday evening. Definitely not motivated…

I suppose rummaging through the old Florida images isn’t going to help my mood but it is amazing to me how even after 3 years I can discover an image that works. It has me wondering what I didn’t see in it three years ago.

I read an article earlier in the week that made an argument for not processing your images as soon as you get home. You should allow the euphoria and excitement of capturing the images wear off, and then you would be able to “see” each image with a less biased eye. I think there is truth in that concept, at least for me…

Bridge the Light

Kiwanis Park at Geiger Point, Melbourne, FL

On my initial trip to Palm Bay, this is the first spot I found to grab a few images. It is Kiwanis Park at Geiger Point in Melbourne, FL. The 192 Causeway is crossing the Indian River to bring you to Indialantic and Melbourne Beach. I make it a point to stop here every trip to the Florida coast. This is literally the last image I captured on my last trip back in 2018.

I’m planning another trip for May of this year. Hopefully I can get a room at Disney’s Vero Beach resort. The resort is pretty much centered in the area of the coast I want to explore, from Cocoa Beach to Juno Beach. It is still four months away but I have already begun to make lists of places I wanted to visit/photograph. This planning is partially the reason for the flood of old Florida images showing up in my posts. Well, that and the lack of any new winter photographs due to the insanely cold temps… LOL.
