Along the River Bank

Frontierland, Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney World

I have been working on a way to process my Disney images to look like a painted postcard. I tried a watercolor look and originally was working in that direction, but I think I finally found the process I want to use. I’ll admit, I’m no painter and I don’t believe my skills with Photoshop or Illustrator warrant me even attempting something in either of those applications.

I have owned the Topaz Labs suite of applications ever since I won a contest on Google+ six or seven years ago. The latest version, Topaz Studio 2, has a lot of ways for me to release my creativity. I only had to get past the fact that I am using the tools at my disposal, which include my camera, to present images the way I see them in my head. Even when that vision wasn’t completely clear.

Here is a scene along the Rivers of America in the Magic Kingdom…

Mill St. Bridge

Bellamy Harbor Park

My thought the other evening was to jump down to Bellamy Harbor to grab a few images during the sunset. I had a vision of the trees lining the canal starting to change color and I would be able to find a great autumn scene. I forgot to include Mother Nature in my plans. She can be mean at times.

There was a heavy layer of clouds hugging the horizon and as I drove toward the barge canal the sun kept marching into them. Luckily the sky to the East was not obscured and the few clouds present were reflecting the remaining sunlight. The waters of the Barge Canal were fairly calm which allowed for a nice reflection image of the Mill St. bridge.

Peaceful Bellamy

Bellamy Harbor Park

I passed by the park about 30 minutes prior to the sunset after a nice dinner at the Rail and Canal restaurant. I stopped at Ace Hardware few a few items and when I exited the sky was ablaze! I jumped in the car and drove back to Bellamy Harbor Park hoping I could beat the sunset. I didn’t quite catch the best of the colors but it was worth the stop…

Something Different

Letchworth State Park

I have been fascinated with the Prisma app for the way I can change a photograph into something different. My issue is the app is only for my phone. I have been working on utilizing Topaz Labs Abstraction plugin which is now incorporated into their Studio 2 program. My hope is I can arrive at an image that looks like a watercolor painting.

This is one of my early attempts. The original image, New Bridge, was captured last year at Letchworth State Park. I still have some refinements to the process I need to try but I think I am getting closer…
