Autumn Beginning

Green Lakes State Park

I left work a little early yesterday. Isn’t Friday supposed to be the slide into the weekend day? It isn’t supposed to be the every problem surfaces today day. Anyway, as I neared the eight hour mark of working I decided I would call it a day and stop at Green Lakes State Park on my way home. So worth it!

The timing is a little early for full autumn colors but the opportunity to walk the trail around lake picked up my mood. There were a lot of people that shared my plan for a warm Friday afternoon. Typically I am at these parks before sunrise and other people show up. It didn’t affect my enjoyment at all. I realized it was the first time I walked the entire loop around the lake. It is a nice trail with plenty of spots to view the lake. In a week or two the leaves will be perfect…

Beach Club Light

Beach Club Resort, Crescent Lake, Walt Disney World

Is it nostalgia or pining? Returning to the images I captured at Walt Disney World in May for this morning’s post. The 50th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World is right around the corner (October 1st). I guess it is a little of both…

If it was truly nostalgia then this post would be of Cinderella Castle. Maybe that one will be next?

Pining it is. I would love to be in the Magic Kingdom for the anniversary but my love/hate relationship with Walt Disney World is leaning toward the hate side right now. I know, a strong word, but that is how it feels. There are numerous reasons but I will not bore you with those… you’re welcome. Wait, I think it is reminiscing? Yep, that seems to be it.

Right now I can enjoy the early morning view of the Beach Club. This is one of my favorite times of the day. Well before most guests wake. When it is only me running around the lake capturing the views, enjoying the peace and quiet.

Floating Boardwalk

Crescent Lake, Walt Disney World

If I was asked what my favorite part of my trip to Walt Disney World was this time I would say it was the area around Crescent Lake. This is the resort area behind Epcot when you exit through the International Gateway. It is where the Yacht & Beach Club and Boardwalk resorts are located.

Each morning I would start my day with a walk around the lake to capture the sunrise and the resort areas still lit up for the night. If you are lucky enough to have the wind be non-existent and you are early enough before any activity starts on the lake you will be rewarded with mirror-like reflections. I was this fortunate on the last morning of my vacation. Add to this enough clouds in the sky to for some drama and you come home with a few amazing images.

This is the view of the Boardwalk resort from across the lake. I was in a second floor room facing the lake, one room to the right of the building with the Boardwalk sign on its roof. It was a great location for sunrise and sunsets.

Reflecting Trees

Delta Lake State Park

I went up to Delta Lake for the sunset. The park was practically empty. I walked up and down the beach getting interesting images of the setting sun. I even climbed the twelve foot high pile of sand at the one end of the beach for a unique view of the area.

When the sun was gone and I had my memory card loaded with images, I packed up my equipment and headed back home. At the stop sign near the front offices I looked over my right shoulder for one last look at the color in the sky. The reflection of the trees in the water was amazing. Well, now I had to pull over…

Delta Reflections

Delta Lake State Park

We all know I have a “thing” for a reflection. If I can incorporate a reflection into the image, the odds are good I will. The odds increase whenever I’m at Delta Lake, and they go through the roof when there is no wind at sunset.

Sunday evening the clouds had taken over the sky. I had a good thirty minutes until the official time of sunset but I was determined to stick it out and see what developed. It didn’t hurt I was joined at my spot on the beach by a grandmother and her two grandchildren. We chatted away the minutes, pointing out the changing colors as the sun marched into the horizon.

We were desperately hoping the sun would break through the clouds at the last minute and illuminate the trees at the edge of the point. I had managed a single image earlier when the color in the sky was a little flat. I really wanted another chance as the sky turned magenta. Alas, it was not meant to be…

My determination to see trees shine did allow me to capture the changing color reflected in the clouds. All in all, it was a good end to the day.
