Food & Wine Festival, Epcot, Walt Disney World
Finally! I thought I had my computer all fixed last Sunday and all I needed to do was straighten out the Windows activation problem. Boy was I wrong! I’ll go ahead and date myself but I miss the simpler days of DOS and even the first versions of Windows. So much easier to deal with… lol
So this is the image I was working on for Monday when I realized I was going to be working on this computer a little longer. It isn’t Monorail Monday any longer but I didn’t want to wait until this coming Monday to share. Just a little hand-held image of the Monorail gliding through the Epcot entrance loop during the Food & Wine Festival last fall. I love the colors the Odyssey building (on the right) picks up from the setting sun. I also get great colors on Spaceship Earth.
Delta Lake State Park
I’m back! Did you miss me? I have been having fun these last few days, how about you? The latest Windows update that was installed Wednesday night decided to trash my hard drive. Luckily it didn’t do anything to my files as I have them on a second hard drive but my operating system needed to be re-installed and I am still in the process of reloading all my software. I have one more issue Microsoft is going to have to deal with but the one department I need to talk to does not work on the weekends so that will be an interesting call on Monday.
Just to get me back in the swing of things I processed another view of the sunset from last Sunday evening up at Delta Lake State Park. I just love the colors! The ice was starting to melt and break up some so there is also a cool channel for the sky reflection. After these past few days I’m hoping to get back out with the camera today… 🙂
Delta Lake State Park
Sunday was the perfect end to a beautiful weekend. The weather the whole day was gorgeous so I knew I would be heading out around sunset in search of an image. I didn’t have to travel far as my favorite state park around the corner from me had everything I needed. Empty beach. Melting ice. And just enough clouds in the sky to make it interesting.
After capturing a few images in the landscape orientation I found this rock that was begging me to take its picture. I rotated the camera into portrait mode and zoomed in to get its good side. I ended up having to use my thumb over the sun trick I wrote about a few posts ago to be able to remove the flare but I think everything turned out well. I love the colors in this image. I’m hoping the rest of the week is as nice so I can continue exploring.
Delta Lake State Park
Today’s image is from the end of my photography adventure on Saturday. I was able to get out and capture both the sunrise and the sunset, with this sunset being at my old stand-by Delta Lake State Park. The water level in the reservoir is always low during the winter so I was able to walk out quite a ways toward this familiar point to capture the sunset light reflected in the layer of ice.
Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World
When we were in Florida for Christmas it was a given that we would be going to Disney. The trip was to be with Grandma, but the kids had not been to Disney in almost 4 years. There was no way I was getting away without taking them. So we picked two parks and went over for a couple of days.
After a successful day at Epcot we did change up our plans and rather than fight the crowds at the Magic Kingdom we opted to go to Hollywood Studios and spend the middle of the day at Disney Springs (formally Downtown Disney). This worked out well as sadly, Hollywood Studios is going through some changes and we were able to do everything in the morning, and make it back for the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at night (this was the last year for the lights).
We arrived back at the park via one of the Friendship boats from the Boardwalk resort. I decided to run to the car to drop off everyone’s purchases and dare I say it, my camera! I didn’t want to get caught up trying to photograph the lights and thought I would rather just enjoy the evening. It was a great decision.
On my way to the parking lot I couldn’t help but notice the Tower of Terror against the blue evening sky. I didn’t have the tripod but I made my exposure adjustments, balanced the camera on a railing and grabbed this image. I really love the colors in this one…
Palm Bay Marina, Turkey Creek
Just down the road from my mother-in-law is the Palm Bay Marina. I drove by numerous times every day wondering if there was an image I could capture. The other night I walked down after dinner and found a walking path that followed the creek out toward the Indian River. Although I managed to grab some individual shots, I setup on the walkway corner to capture what I needed for a panorama.
After getting my pictures by the creek I wished that I could have gone into the marina to capture some images from the docks. The gate was open but the sign indicated only boat owners and guests are allowed after 5pm. I looked for someone to ask but no one was in sight. I almost talked myself into sneaking in but thought my luck would have brought the police. I guess I’m not a very adventurous photographer. 🙂
I used Lightroom’s panorama feature to combine the images and make my normal adjustments. A quick trip into OnOne Photo Suite for few enhancements gave me the view that had been in my head.
near Melbourne, FL
Spending the Christmas Holiday in Florida with the kids. We found a beach along A1A just south of Melbourne Beach. The kids had fun in the waves while I searched for pictures. Of course, the little bit of rain had me heading to the car at least once.
