Monochrome Madness

Monochrome Winter
Backyard Exploring

Saturday morning was perfect for being outside. The sun was shining, there was little wind and the temps were heading toward 40+. I realized I have lost some of that excitement and naiveté with my photography.  I’m looking for that one great image and not exploring all the hidden images around me.  I use to explore more when I first started.  So I went out exploring…

I also have abandoned some of the unique series that I started and it was time to get back into those as well.  As I mentioned yesterday I am currently influenced by my reading of an Ansel Adams book, so I present Monochrome Winter continued…

Shadow Lines

In the Yard – ITY04

The other night after dinner I went exploring in the yard again. The difference this time is I was looking for details. I didn’t want to beautiful flower or the wonderful landscape image. I wanted to find images of small details. I was looking for patterns, texture, interesting light, etc. I found some really cool stuff at the end of my driveway in the sand. Looking at the second image I wish I had increased my DoF to capture more of the details… next time!

Morse Code?

In The Yard – ITY01

The start of a new year! Actually, doesn’t really feel any different than last year. At least not yet. I know I mentioned resolutions in the post yesterday but I refrained from making a post about them. I did those in the past and they do not seem to take hold. I need to figure out a better method.

I did decide to start this month off with a new series I’m going to call In The Yard. I know there are a lot of subjects for my camera in my yard and I want to train myself to see them better. It is what I did when I was learning with my old point & shoot. Looking back at that time I did capture some nice images. They’re out there… just have to find them.

So, the first in the series is of a small birch tree in the side yard. Looks like a woodpecker has done some tattooing on the bark. I went with a very small depth of field and then converted to B&W because the textures and details where more important than the colors (at least for me).

Juxtaposition

Saturday was a nice change of pace from the previous few days. The temperatures reached the lower 20’s and it felt absolutely wonderful outside comparatively speaking. I had an idea (I know, who would have thought) for a series of images I could use for the current week’s theme of square crop. I’m not quite done processing them yet so that post will be in a day or two, but when I was done I threw this golf umbrella in the yard. I really liked the bright yellow contrasting with the beautiful blue sky and I am always a sucker for a snow covered evergreen tree. 🙂
