This is one of my playgrounds with the camera. The trails along the barge canal provide great opportunities for images. This is a wide angle view of both the Utica Marsh and the Barge Canal from the Route 12 bridge. It still amazes with how much scenery the 8mm lens can capture!

More Details
Last Sunday after I had to stop into work I made my way to the barge canal and walked the trail in the early morning light. I had another great time exploring a section of the barge canal west of Lock 20. There is a maintenance facility at the start of the trail and I found this NYS Barge Canal boat just begging me to explore all of its details. The full, wide image just didn’t do it for me but as I walked all around the boat I found dozens of interesting images.

Details
Some days it isn’t about the grand sweeping landscape or incredible sunset. Some days it is about the details that catch your eye. It can be color combinations, patterns or textures. All I know is since I have started using a camera more I definitely see the world differently. It seems more in focus, like there is more available to see. Maybe I am finally using my eyes as they were intended to be used and not living with the blinders on. I enjoy the journey more now that I truly see everything around me.

Bellamy Harbor Park
I have a few regular haunts that are not too far from the house. Bellamy Harbor Park is in the south of Rome, NY along the Barge Canal where the Black River enters. Surprisingly I haven’t visited as much as usual this summer. The other night I stopped by and was greeted with plenty of photographic opportunities. Now I don’t know if there just happened to be more going on that night or I have learned to see more of them. 🙂
