A Day at the Beach

Whew! Saturday! It has been a long week. Work was quite busy and interesting. My oldest headed back to college (only one more week for the youngest). Some crazy weather here in Upstate NY. And limited ambition to take the camera for a walk. Until last evening.

As I walked out of work I was happy to see some clouds rolling in from the southwest. It was setting up to be a beautiful sunset. Now for a place to get to before it was too late. I headed up to my old stand by location of Delta Lake State Park. I was able to get in about thirty minutes of exploring before my fingers started getting numb and the sun completely disappeared.

Nature’s Ice Sculpture

I went looking for the bald eagles over by the dam outlet at Delta Lake on Saturday. I had a good walk but was not fortunate enough to spot any eagles. I did manage to get some images of the ice that forms on branches hanging into the river. This stuff always fascinates me.

The Long Walk Back

As I was heading back to the car after an hour of exploring at Delta Lake the other day I noticed a pair of ice fishermen walking back to the beach. They are those small dots above the picnic table. lol I only had the 35mm lens on the camera but I like the view that lens captures with my camera.

I went a slightly different direction with the processing for this image. I chose to use a high key look which would accentuate the shadows and wash out portions of the sky. I think it really adds to the cold feel of this one.

Winter Arrives

This will be the third image I have taken of this knoll leading to the beach at Delta Lake State Park. Something about the setting sun behind the trees and the picnic tables at the top of the rise that always brings the camera to my eye. It is interesting to see the seasons change through the different images. You can view the other versions at Summer Fades and Summer Awaits.

A Cold Sunset

The sun did manage to make it through the clouds yesterday. I drove over to Delta Lake about an hour before sunset to see what presented itself. I couldn’t believe there were ice fisherman out on the lake even though there were still patches of lake unfrozen. I can’t decide if they are brave or crazy.

I walked my usual path around the beach and came away with some interesting images. Of course the one below was captured as I was exiting the park. I spied this scene driving out and pulled over at the front gatehouse to get one last image.
