Time to Play

Flat Rock Park, Columbus, GA

Getting ready for work in the morning is one of my relaxation times. A cup of coffee by my side and no plans other than to eventually walk out the door toward the work day. Sometimes, it is my time to play. Sometimes I like to explore and others I just lose the time on useless things. For quite a long time it is when I process images and place words on a blank screen. I haven’t been doing much of that lately. Hopefully, I’m beginning to change…

I found a few play areas at Flat Rock Park the other day. They don’t especially feel like they have been used in a few years. I still like the colors and worn down look though, so I’m going to see if there is more to find in the park…

Reflection Duo

Flat Rock Park, Columbus, GA

OK, I’m definitely milking that one excursion to the park for a few good images. It was a good evening to be outside. We all know I love a good reflection in my photography and last Thursday was no exception. The group of trees visible at the top of the waterfall/slide image from few days ago remain the stars of these reflections.

This first image is a six image vertical panoramic. I could (and did) grab a vertically oriented view of this scene but I was wanting to pull in more of the reflection and/or the actual trees depending on where I focused at 24mm. By switch back to a landscape orientation and capturing enough images top to bottom I was able to use Lightroom to stitch them together into a nice vertical panoramic view.

The rock structure which is a prominent feature of this park (hence the name) holds water in various pockets. I was running around looking for the best angle and interesting views for my next reflection. Not that I’m a fan of the graffiti, but it does add to the image. Plus, a reflection… I’m happy.

Water Slide

Flat Rock Park, Columbus, GA

Hello?

Is there anybody out there?

It’s me, the lost photographer.

Well, not physically lost, more like I lost my way. No, that isn’t quite right either. Lost my drive? Is that what this is? Probably.

Come on, be honest, you have been lethargic. Always easier to sit on your butt when you came home from work. And that was a slippery slope. Once started it went downhill fast!

Luckily, I had a really nice lunch this past weekend with a new friend and we talked about helping each other get out of the house. Exploring, walking trails, and finding out what this area has to offer. I look forward to this new outlook.

I went to Flat Rock Park after work yesterday. No big plan, just get out of the house. Walk. Explore. Photograph. You know, the stuff I used to do. I really liked this view and was losing the light quickly. I didn’t go back to the car for the tripod so I attempted doing this handheld. Not bad, if I do say so myself…

Sitting Through the Seasons

Delta Lake State Park

Well, I am not doing this photography thing very well lately. I could contrive numerous reasons, but basically, my focus has been on other hobbies/interests. That being said, I do want to contribute to Karma’s four season photo hunt.

I’m going to cheat in order to play along with everyone else who posted for this hunt. Karma shared the idea for this photo hunt at the beginning of the year. What did I go and do… move to a different state at the end of September. Makes it a little tough to get an image of the same spot through the seasons. So, I found four photos that show the seasons at one of my favorite spots back in NY, Delta Lake State Park.

Considering the hunt was in January I’ll follow the winter, spring, summer and fall rotation. I selected images from the pond at the entrance to the park. This area has more trees around the water which will help show the seasons as well as a bench. I have a soft spot for including a bench in my images…

You should check out Karma’s post for her results, Four Seasons at Conant Brook. I am going to attempt to be more engaged with this blog going forward. Things have settled down after the move and I think (finger’s crossed) that all my drama has been resolved. Now I can get back to exploring my new hometown…

I’m still wondering why it took me so long to visit Flat Rock Park. It is five minutes from my apartment. It is a big park with a lot to see and has a lot of opportunities for me. I’m chalking it up to me being basically lazy… 🙂
