Delta Lake State Park
I haven’t processed all the images I captured last Saturday while I was snowshoeing around Delta Lake State Park. So this morning I figured I should make an effort to do a few. Next to the beach area there is a small pond sandwiched in between the trails. The volume of water generally rises and falls with the level in the lake. With the clouds in the sky, the sun trying to poke its way through to my right and the frozen water I wanted to capture the entire scene from one of the ends of this area. I don’t have a super-wide lens but I do know how to capture images for a panorama. This image is a 10 shot panorama.

Snowy Solitude – Portfolio Blog
Mother Nature was not done with us. After a week of nice, above normal weather, winter returned in full force Thursday night/Friday morning. I ended up snow blowing the driveway three times on Friday. I worked from home because after an early attempt on the roads I decided it was not worth attempting. And then, after a short 16 hours of snowing, it was over. The snow hung on everything creating a beautiful winter wonderland.
By the middle of the day Saturday the temperature was in the middle 30’s and I ventured out to Delta Lake State Park before all the snow fell off the trees. The snow was deep enough to give me quite a workout with the snowshoes. An hour exploring the park with the camera and I was feeling it in my quads. I think I managed to capture some good images. I’ll start with a isolated view of a couple of the benches at the edge of the beach…
Griffith Observatory, Griffith Park, California
Griffith Observatory – Portfolio Blog
A last minute adjustment to a supplier visit had me traveling to California this week. It was suppose to be a quick trip so I decided not to bring any camera equipment along. That was a mistake. The supplier was prepared and I was able to complete my inspection by noon on Wednesday. My flight back was not until Thursday morning. With some free time on my hands I drove up to Griffith Park to explore the Griffith Observatory. I was in geek heaven! It was amazing!
Although I was regretting not bringing a camera with me, my phone manages to capture halfway respectable images. I can do quite a lot of editing with the apps on my phone but ended up using Lightroom Mobile to get them sync’d up with my computer. I did not have the proper time to process all of the pictures so I will warn everyone now that another post will be coming for my trip to the observatory.

Winter on the Lake – Portfolio Blog
I was not a happy camper yesterday. I awoke to the sound of wind and rain on my window. My hope for going out to capture a sunrise was quickly diminishing. So were my plans to test the X-T2 a little more before I needed to send it back. The day unfolded and my mood only worsened. I’ll admit, I pouted.
I should have had faith in Mother Nature. We are usually on good speaking terms. Around 3:30 in the afternoon she came through for me. The sun worked its way through the clouds and as I looked to the west I could tell it was going to be a good sunset. I got the cats fed, charged up the camera battery and headed over to Delta Lake State Park for the show. It was so worth it!
I’m really enjoying the manual adjust dial layout on the X-T2. I can adjust the exposure quickly without removing my eye from the viewfinder. The multi-angled view screen is great for when I switch to portrait mode as well. The small joystick for re-positioning the focus point just works for me. I had a good time on the frozen lake last night. Hopefully this image reflects my mood…
Monochrome Winter
After the Sunday chores were completed, i.e., groceries and cleaning, I headed out into winter reborn for a walk along the creek and into the fields behind the house. I’m still trying to determine the quality of the pictures I captured while sloshing through the creek bed but I do like the simplicity of this image. I was walking from the woods back toward the house when the snow covered tree line caught my eye.
Butternut Creek, Old Erie Canal Park, DeWitt, NY
Tunnel Vision – Portfolio Blog
Another creation from my lunch exploration of the Old Erie Canal Park near work last week when we still had some snow. Although the water level was low and it allowed me to get down into the creek, there was some good speed to the water which created the ripples. It was an overcast, winter day so there was nothing of the sky to capture. I am totally in love with the stone work of the aqueduct so I captured a three shot bracket in order to bring out the detail in the shadows. My original plan was to create this image as a B&W, but there was not enough tonal difference between the water and aqueduct and everything turned out the same with this white spot in the middle. I decided to desaturate the image which allowed for the separation of the aqueduct from the water.
Bellamy Harbor Park
Come Sit With Me – Portfolio Blog
It might not be the most exciting place in the world, heck, it is a little “harbor” at the bottom of Rome, NY, but in the quiet hours of the morning it can be a very beautiful place to be. I remember when the city added the benches on this side of the park. Not many people venture across the pedestrian bridge. If you do though, you are rewarded with a scene like this.
Sit. Enjoy the morning. Listen… only the sound of water flowing over the spillway. Relax. The day is young…
