I really got my steps in while I was on vacation. I haven’t been out for a walk since I returned. Luckily for me, I have some images still in my pocket from walks prior to vacation. Even a few daisies. I need to get out and find more…

I left work on time Wednesday (1:30pm, loving these shifted work hours) and headed out for the Mohawk River Trail. Considering the heat and bright sun I opted to head North through the wood covered trail toward the fish hatchery. It was a good decision on my part. Not only did I stay semi-protected from the midday sun there were plenty of subjects for my camera.

As I walked and my eyes were searching for the next victim, uh, subject to photograph, my mind was bouncing all over the place. Some the bandwidth was being used pondering what I would talk about at the lunch & learn I signed up to give at work. I got thinking about my start in photography back in 2011. How I started with my little Sony point & shoot before moving into the “big leagues” with my first DSLR.

I also got to thinking about Google+ and how it directly contributed to my growth as a photographer. I joined up as soon as I could when it launched in June 2011. I had read it was a great place for photographers and soon found myself meeting people and participating in the daily/weekly themes. It really pushed me to learn and try different things with the camera.

One of the themes I used to favor was about grass. It was an easy one for me as I lived out in the country and could easily find images in my yard or the pastures surrounding my house. Those thoughts must have been forefront in my mind when I encountered this image. I’ll admit it took a few attempts and different angles to achieve this one. Well worth it.

I played with a few different processing choices. I really like the monochrome version… how about you?
