Another walk in the International Sculpture Garden before dinner. No purpose. Mostly a meander along the trails. A few detours when something catches my eye. It was good.
Crossing over a little creek on a wooden bridge yielded this image. Shadows intersecting the deck definitely intrigued me. I love the simplicity yet can get lost in the details…

I think I’m complacent. No, that isn’t right. Lazy. That is more like it. Well, maybe not in the traditional sense. Less creative? Stuck in a rut? Forgetting the joys of true exploration?
I don’t know, probably all of the above.
Landscape. Sunrise. Sunset. Macro. Waterfall. Rinse and repeat. Aaaahhhh!
Wake up!
I have been looking through some of my earlier work. Images as well as posts. Wow! When I was beginning in photography I drank it all in. I tried it all. I went in a hundred different directions. Looking at it now, I wonder what I was doing. I cringe a little. I think “I posted that?”. But then I think, yes, and you were excited about it.
As I mentioned in my last post, I did a photo walk with a group from work. We went to the International Sculpture Garden. Everyone started rolling in a little after 3:30pm and by 4pm we headed out. OMG! I had way to much fun. I didn’t capture a single image. I rambled on about everything. I tried to get everyone to think about the image they wanted to capture. I helped a few with their camera. I probably got too excited about how to create an image rather than take a picture.
They want to do it again soon. They created a monster in me… 🙂
But all that talk about seeing differently, looking for different subjects, got me thinking about my own photography. To be truthful it actually started after the lunch and learn session a few weeks back. So, when I walked the sculpture garden trails Sunday prepping for the photo walk I looked for different subjects.
I really liked (still like) minimalism. This is what I found…

You can check out one of my earlier posts here on minimalism and the photographer (Tom McLaughlan – Ministract) who got me interested. If you search for “minimal”, “minimalism” or “ministract” on my site you can find some interesting posts, maybe even an idea or two for you next image…
I have talked about photographer Tom McLaughlan (Ministract) before on this blog. He is the photographer I found on Google+ when I started my photography journey who peaked my interest in abstract and minimalism in photography. Although I attempt to produce work as visually interesting as Tom when I fumble at abstract images I have more steps to take on my journey to be able to see the beautiful patterns before me. Tom’s latest blog post (Helsinki Bus Station Theory) not only brings another set of wonderful images he links to a very interesting article about photographic vision and personal commitment by Arno Minkkinen. I encourage you to go check out this post…
As I am still having issues with my main photography computer I am including one of my abstracts from last year. An interesting pattern found in the shop…
It has been forever since I participated in one of The Daily Post photo challenges. My friend Dawn at Change is Hard commented that one of my posts would fit the recent Descent theme and then another for this theme. So this morning I decided to get off my lazy butt and see what I had that fit this week’s theme of Minimalist.
I have spoken to minimalism before in a few posts (here and here) and I was originally inspired by the work of Tom McLaughlin who I found on Google+. Tom created a blend of minimalism and abstract that he calls ministract. He has some very interesting images at his site ministract.com. But this challenge is only looking for minimalism. I am inspired to find more throughout the week and for that I want to thank Dawn but for now here is my first attempt…
