Long Lost

Wells Falls, Ithaca, NY

Even when the light is favorable, I’m really liking my waterfalls in monochrome. Not all of them but the color in this scene was very distracting to me. Easy fix, remove the color. Bam!

Summer Cascade

Taughannock Falls State Park

Saturday I drove to Ithaca, NY to visit a few of the gorge trails in and around the area. I arrived at the first park around 6:30am and didn’t call it quits until almost six hours later. I visited three state parks and one wildflower preserve.

It was glorious!

It was a party cloudy day (rains forecast to arrive late in the day) which is almost perfect for waterfall photography. I did have to contend with a few “hot” spots while capturing my images but overall it was a great trip. It will take some time to process my pics, so I guess this post also serves as a warning of what to expect over the next few days.

I’ll start it off with a monochrome look of the small cascade at the entrance of Taughannock Falls State Park. I look forward to this view every visit and the recent rains provided the perfect amount of water in the creek. I sat and listened to the water tumbling over the steps for a little while before heading out on the trail for big prize at the end.

While I was working my way through the parks I was uploading images of the waterfalls processed with the Prisma app on my phone. This app allows my to create a “painted” look to the image. Here are those pics…

Catch the Rainbow

Delta Lake State Park

The past few days have not been photo friendly, or rather, not motivational enough for me to get off my butt after work. I was determined to change that this evening. With an hour left before sunset I headed up to Delta Lake.

I walked to a good location and noticed there was a faint rainbow in the sky.

Score!

At first I only noticed the left half of the rainbow and was composing a few images to include the rainbow and the sun. But then I noticed both ends of the rainbow were visible.

Time to break a few “photography rules”
