Overcast Reflection

NYS Barge Canal

The temperatures are improving today but the weather is still overcast and gloomy. I didn’t let that stop me this morning. After getting my laundry done and having breakfast I ventured out to Bellamy Harbor for some monochrome images. I knew the fog/overcast conditions would lend themselves to monochrome processing.

I even changed it up a little by using the 50mm prime lens rather than my go to zoom (24-70mm). Even with the 50mm view there is plenty of space around the harbor to capture a nice landscape image. I took my time and poked my nose in every corner of the harbor.

Under the bridge heading into Rome you can get right down to the canal. This is the view looking west up the canal. I started with a landscape oriented view but once my eye caught the tree reflection I knew which image I would be working on when I got home.

Reflecting Bellamy

Bellamy Harbor Park

The weather app indicated cloudy conditions but clearing for the day. Perfect for sunrise images. No wind either which had me thinking the canal would be calm and like a mirror. I was right. The colors in the sky reflected in the waters of the canal. A perfect morning (except for the friggin’ mosquitoes)…

Drifting Away

Delta Lake State Park

I’m listening to the wind and rain outside the window wondering what the rest of the day will bring. The forecast is for rain but I see a period of sun around midday with the temperature topping off at 67 F. I’m ready for Mother Nature to get this Spring season rolling. My macro lens is begging me to take it out in search of floral subjects.

I was looking through the images from Delta Lake I brought home the other day and was fascinated by this one. Nothing spectacular, but to me it is interesting and serene. I get lost looking at the light playing through the clouds, the various colors and the layers. I could easily let myself drift away, sitting on the beach, as the light faded to dark…

Barge Canal at Bellamy Harbor

For today’s image, I am under the Mill St. bridge, which can be seen spanning the Barge Canal in yesterday’s image. Looking east along the canal into the rising sun. The new Hamilton College rowing dock can be seen from this side of the canal. Me, I’m a fan of the reflections… 🙂
