Bellamy Harbor at Sunrise

Bellamy Harbor Park, Rome, NY

I always assumed that Bellamy Harbor Park was part of the city of Rome’s responsibility. I have been giving the city credit for all the good renovation that has occurred over the last few years. It is actually owned by the New York State Canal Corporation. I guess I should be giving credit where credit is due.

The Canal Corporation has been adding a lot to the park on the East side, across Mill Street from the original park. Sunday morning was a great day to capture some of that new area with a nice dramatic sunrise as a backdrop. I also managed a few other views including a nice panoramic view of the barge canal looking East from under the Mill St. bridge.

Morning Power

Bellamy Harbor Park, Rome, NY

The sunrise was looking too good yesterday to not stop and attempt to grab an image. On my way out of town I stopped at Bellamy Harbor Park to see what I could capture. The view looking toward the park and down the Barge Canal was not that impressive. All the colors and drama where in the sky looking more North. From the pedestrian bridge over the Mohawk I was able to get the colors I wanted, you only have to live with the power lines in the view…

Sun Spots

Sunrise along the Thruway

Once again I stopped on the Thruway as I drove to work yesterday. The conditions were right for some wonderful color and drama in the sky as I tried capturing the lonely little tree in the pasture. I decided to leave my 60mm macro lens on the camera and see what it could do for the scene. It definitely created interesting lens flare…

Hello Morning

Bellamy Harbor Park, Rome, NY

Normally, each week day I follow the same routine to get myself to work. There might be slight variations but, in general, I stick to the plan. This was a tough week at work. Even though it was shortened by the holiday, by Thursday morning I was running on fumes.

As I drove through the city heading toward the highway, I felt refreshed by the color of the sky. I didn’t want to waste this source of energy. I ended up driving to Bellamy Harbor Park to photograph the sunrise. Totally worth with the detour!

I have an image with a wider view which brings in a few more elements of the sky but I like this focused image better. I shifted my location to the right to bring the water tower to a better spot. If you can enlarge the image and explore the improvements the city of Rome has been doing at the park.
