Delta Lake State Park

It had been about a week since I last saw Delta Lake.  When I drove by last weekend on my way to Pixley Falls the water level was still low.  I was amazed to see the lake “full” again.  One week!  It only took a week to bring the lake back to a normal level.  That is a lot of water.

It was a fairly nice evening and I was a little surprised there were not more people in the park.  I’m not complaining, I prefer to have it to myself, but still surprised.  I had almost an hour until the sun set which allowed me to walk around and attempt to be creative.  Doesn’t always work.

I liked this view with the picnic tables.  The way the sun highlighted the tables to the long shadows cast on the sand.  Soon this beach will be occupied for the summer, but for now it is still mine…

Peaceful Reflection

Delta Lake State Park

I have been waiting for a day like yesterday! Temperatures in the mid 50’s and barely any wind. It was the best evening to go see how the ice is doing on Delta Lake. The water level is still eight to ten feet below normal so the Spring thaw has not begun in earnest yet. I’ll be looking forward to the increased flow in the creeks when that gets going.

I explored for almost an hour and a half while the sun moved into position. Without any clouds in the sky I wanted to wait until the sun was starting to drop below the horizon to capture the reflection in the open areas of the lake. I still needed to use the “finger over the sun” trick to ensure I could remove any unwanted sun spots. And once again I left a little early as the color in the sky exploded as I was driving by the lake on my way back home. Today I’m going to force myself to stay longer…

Long Shadows

Delta Lake State Park

I want to blame the weather on my lack of photography motivation but that would not be one hundred percent true. There is a picture to be found no matter what the weather is doing. But I apparently have decided I would rather be warm than brave the cold. And when I do get up enough courage to go outside, a little wind drives me back home… OK, a lot of wind. And blowing off the lake last night, it was damn cold. Before I froze my ear off I managed to capture these long shadows working their way across the snow covered water near the entrance to Delta Lake State Park.
