It has been a little over two years since I switched from my Nikon setup to Olympus. I love this camera. Everything I need fits easily in my backpack. The smaller size equipment allows me to take it everywhere without creating issues for me. The only downside I currently have is the low-light performance. I find for my normal landscape work around sunrise and sunset it is not to much of an issue. Sometimes I have to utilize a longer exposure or open up the aperture a few stops but I have been able to get the images I wanted. On my last trip to Disney I found the camera a little limiting while trying to capture more night images. I’m looking into possibilities for improving my game…

I rented the Fujifilm X-T2 camera, the Fujinon 23mm f/2 and Fujinon 18-55mm f/2.8-4 lenses for a week. I didn’t want to give up the advantages of the mirrorless system but wanted to see if the larger sensor improved my night time results. I have also been looking at the Sony A7R II/III system but not sure I need to go all the way to full frame (the sticker shock might be a contributing factor in those thoughts). I might rent the Sony at some point down the road to see if the price is justified. I also believe part of this looking elsewhere is due to the cost of the upgrade to my camera. Not sure it helps with what I want for the price.

Of course, as luck would have it, I rent the Fujifilm equipment for a week starting on Friday but I neglected to inform Mother Nature. She can be so cruel some times. I managed to go out Saturday morning to Bellamy Harbor Park to try out the system. As I am writing this post this morning I can hear the wind and rain against my windows and I know my opportunities today will be very limited. And to add to my predicament, I have to go out of town this week for work (very last minute) so unless I am willing to take it with me, my rental week will be very short.

One of the aspects of the X-T2 that I was interested in is the systems ability to simulate various Fujifilm film types. In particular, the Acros 100 mode. I was not a big film photographer when I was younger and really only became serious about photography in the digital age but I do love a good monochrome image. My apologies now, most of the images in this post are the straight out of camera Acros simulation images. Hopefully, I’ll have some opportunities to play with more features/functions of this camera before I have to send it back.
