The Watchtower

Delta Lake State Park

A quick thunderstorm rolled through the area last night about 2 hours before sunset. The storm was moving fast, about 25 mph, and was purported to have high winds and hail. I didn’t experience any of the hail but the high winds definitely knocked a few loose branches out of trees. As soon as the storm ended the sun was out and I immediately thought I should head out to try my wide-angle lens.

I have been wanting a little wider lens for some time now. Currently I use my trusty 12-40mm but miss the extra view I used to have with my Nikon setup. I wasn’t excited about spending almost $1100 on the Olympus 7-14mm or the $900 for the Panasonic 7-14mm.

I decided I could sacrifice a little view by going with the Olympus 9-18mm. I would also by giving up some speed as well, f/2.8 vs f/4-5.6, but the price difference was significant. I even took it a step further and was able to grab a used version off eBay for almost half the price of a new lens. It was even 1/3rd the cost of a new 7-14mm lens. The lens looks brand new new, not a mark on it.

More to come on my new addition but for now here is the first image from it…
