Miss Sunshine

Griffiss Business and Technology Park

I’ve driven past the flowers in the Griffiss Business and Technology Park for quite a few days now. Last evening after dinner I was reading on the couch when the sunshine highlighted a spot outside the window. For whatever reason I thought of the black-eyed susan’s over at the park and knew I had to go get some pictures.

I must have been quite a sight as I crouched next to the flower beds with my camera and tripod in the meridian on Hill road across from the credit union. The sun was low, the light was warm and there was no wind. I couldn’t ask for better conditions.

I played for a while finding different compositions among the various beds of flowers. When I found this lone standout I knew I had to try something different… focus stacking. My camera has a bracketing setup to automatically do the focus stacking for me. I was not completely happy with the combined image the camera created but I was able to bring all the exposures into Photoshop to perform the stack. Other than a couple of minor tweaks to correct a few out of focus areas, Photoshop did a really good job. A few artistic adjusts later and I have a new favorite black-eyed susan image.
