USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, Mobile, AL
I ended up going down to Mobile, A this week for work. It was going to be a quick trip, only a few days so I generally pack as light as I can. I didn’t afford myself any room to bring the camera but I figured I would be working most of the time anyway. I didn’t account for the shift in our schedule so we did not interfere with the normal activity during the day. We worked 2pm until we were done, so I had some time on my hands Thursday morning.
Mobile is home to the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. I passed the memorial on my way to the hotel my first night. It looked incredible. I had to go. It was amazing! I ran around the park with my phone trying to take it all in and grabbing as many images as I could. I wasn’t positive if I would be back down any time soon.
The first image is an edit I did on Thursday from my phone to show the USS Alabama. The rest of this post will be images from the USS Drum. A Gato-class, WW II submarine. I’ll be doing more posts to show of the incredible history collected in this park…
You were only about 3 hours south of our place in Dadeville on Lake Martin. I’ve only been down to Mobile once, to see the ship. And it rained all day that day. My favorite shots are those of the interior, the dials and gauges. Those are always what I am drawn to. Glad you got to see it! Did you fly into Atlanta and then drive? Or fly into Mobile?
Thanks Dawn. I flew into Mobile. The regional airport was easier to get a good arrival time. Connected through Atlanta. I’m kinda hoping they need me to go back down soon… 😊
I hope you get to go again too, maybe in the winter when you can escape a bit of the snow back in NY. I am hoping to go down for a few weeks in January. Wish I could should you some of the pretty places in AL.
There is a good chance I’ll be going back. We did not complete the testing we went down to perform. I was impressed with what little of Alabama I got to see. I have always wanted to go to Huntsville since I am a complete space nerd… 😊
Very cool indeed!!
