Floral Friday
Columbus Botanical Garden
You don’t know what you don’t know. Last year I missed the camellia season. Thankfully, due to my membership with the botanical garden I received a newsletter explaining all the upcoming events surrounding camellias. To be honest, I stole the title for this post from the garden’s newsletter. I’ll let the experts explain… Winter in Bloom.
I have been busy adding each opportunity to my calendar. This year I want to explore it all. Last year I happened upon the tail end of the camellia season. This image is from an April visit…

My mother LOVED plants and flowers. At the lake we have several camellia shrubs with different colored flowers. I always loved that they’d be in bloom when I visited for Thanksgiving. To me, from Michigan, things blooming in November were novalties. She’d get so sad if they got a frost during that time of the year because it would freeze all the blossoms.
My Grandma was the one for me. She loved to keep multiple flower gardens full of plants. I would help her but sadly her passion didn’t transfer to me, except maybe why I like photographing them so much…
Looks like you’ve got no excuse now but to get out there with that newsletter!
Definitely! Hopefully the weather will improve because late this afternoon is one of the events.
