Columbus Botanical Garden
Although it is the weekend of the storm, Saturday was not too bad here in Columbus. Overcast skies, a slight breeze and temperatures barely reaching 50F, but compared to other regions, a good day to explore the garden. I was most curious to see how the camellias fared after the snow a week ago. If I’m being honest, I was hoping to find a few blooms at the end of their shine.
Having overcast skies when I’m capture floral subjects with my macro lens isn’t a bad scenario. The clouds act like a big diffuser and help to control the highlights. If you can time the moments the sun peeks through, you can achieve some wonderful lighting affects. I was wandering the trails for ninety minutes having a wonderful morning and came back home with a bounty of images to share.
When I visited the garden a couple of weeks ago I found the trail to the camellia area lined with new sprouts pushing through the leaves. I should have recognized what they were because I had these flowers at my house in NY. Yesterday, the daffodils showed me the way along the trail.
I liked the image I processed but couldn’t leave it alone…

Daffodils in January! What a treat! Image #2 is my favorite.
In a couple week it will be the Camellia Fest at the gardens. I’m looking forward to it. Yeah, #2 is my favorite too.
Amazing. We got about 3 inches of snow today. It’s over my boots when Pen and I go run in the yard. It’s up to her chest. She loves it. I love daffodils.
Luckily for me the system stayed toward the north end of the state. We have an ice alert as temps will drop below freezing this morning.
