The Other World

I’ve been cooped up at the apartment all week. Working from home and venturing out for supplies when needed. I was beginning to go a little stir crazy. So, when Friday afternoon rolled around I closed the work laptop at 3:30pm, grabbed the camera bag and headed to my rejuvenation center, the botanical garden.

And it worked wonders for me!

Walking around the gardens with the afternoon sun warming my face was exactly what I needed. Damn, I feel so much better. The images didn’t really matter, the experience is what I needed. I think when I reviewed what I had captured I threw away more than I kept but again, that wasn’t the point.

I did want to share a quote I found the other day…

“I never look for a photograph. The photograph finds me and says ‘I’m here!’ and I say ‘Yes, I see you. I hear you!'”

– Ruth Bernhard, Photographer

This one found me…

  1. Well that’s a big ole like from me! I understand totally what you’re saying about getting out there and it’s not the image you get that matters it’s the getting of the image. For me it’s always more about the journey than the destination.

AND that’s a perfectly true quote. I (and you) DO see the image and it demands to be taken. I’ve gotten my best stuff when I happened to notice some little thing out of the corner of my eye and turn back to get it. Those are the best times.

    • Thanks Dawn! I generally wander around and point the camera at whatever catches my eye. There have been times when I seek out a particular image but those days generally not produced good images. This little flower jumped out at me! 🙂

    • I very much agree with you both. As much as I might seek to take a nice photo, the best ones are the ones that find you. My favorites from last year ended up being unexpected shots – that was the theme of that post. You are very right Mike that just getting out there does so much for the spirit, and I’m glad that flower found you – so pretty!

      • Sometimes a plan is important to create the vision in my head but I also need to stay open to the unexpected. That is when the magic happens…
