Overcast Reflection
NYS Barge Canal
The temperatures are improving today but the weather is still overcast and gloomy. I didn’t let that stop me this morning. After getting my laundry done and having breakfast I ventured out to Bellamy Harbor for some monochrome images. I knew the fog/overcast conditions would lend themselves to monochrome processing.
I even changed it up a little by using the 50mm prime lens rather than my go to zoom (24-70mm). Even with the 50mm view there is plenty of space around the harbor to capture a nice landscape image. I took my time and poked my nose in every corner of the harbor.
Under the bridge heading into Rome you can get right down to the canal. This is the view looking west up the canal. I started with a landscape oriented view but once my eye caught the tree reflection I knew which image I would be working on when I got home.

Delta Lake State Park
Dumb idea!
But I want to photograph the full moon.
It’s cold!
I’ll be quick.
It’s really cold!
There is no wind, I’ll be fine.
I was fine for about five minutes. Then I was cold! My fingers were cold. They didn’t want to work the controls on the camera. I don’t think my camera was happy with me either. It is only supposed to be used above freezing. I captured a few images and made a quick walk back to the car.
It was a dumb idea…

Snowman Moon
Delta Lake State Park
The middle of the week was definitely a good time to go exploring. If for nothing else than to soak in some fresh air. There were some clouds in the sky but they were kinda what I wanted for the sunset. Delta Lake was empty, as it usually is in the winter.
Before I even made it down to the edge of the frozen lake, this guy caught my eye. With the moon rising behind, I had to capture a portrait. The snowman is looking out at the lake probably thinking he could glide away into the sunset. Or maybe he is standing watch over the snow covered beach ensuring everyone is safe. I thought he was cool…
