Pixley Falls State Park

Saturday was a beautiful day. I had already done most of the normal weekend chores before the weekend even started. The laundry was already on the line drying and I was determined not to sit on my butt. Normally when I go up to Pixley Falls State Park it is in the late afternoon. On hot days, there is always a chance people are still in the park and an even better chance that families will be in the water below the falls. It does make it difficult to get a picture.

I changed my tactic! A cool over-night temperature and an early morning run to the park combined to give me an almost people free park. By the time I was ready to leave the throngs of visitors were starting to roll in. And I still had most of the day for other activities. I win!

Although the volume of water coming over the falls was practically perfect to create the beautiful cascading water effect in my long exposure it wasn’t so much as to prevent me from walking out into the middle of the stream for my image. There was only a slight breeze which helped to keep the mist from covering me and the camera as I was capturing this image. This was one of the first images I captured. I’m glad I went straight to the waterfall, another thirty minutes and this area would be busy with people.
