Trenton Falls
Mother Nature has been having some fun lately. Hot, humid days and the occasional downpour has limited the time out with the camera. Although I was enjoying my Saturday morning of doing absolutely nothing (because of the rain, I swear!), I decided to head up to my favorite playground to grab some long exposure water images before the sun burned its way through the clouds. The area of the West Canada Creek below Trenton Falls if a perfect spot for me to play. And, if I must admit it, I needed to get my butt off the couch… LOL!
I know I have captured this view before but I really enjoy the “big picture” from the bridge over the creek. I also like when the overflow gate is closed and the water is spilling over the dam. I generally spend a lot of my time climbing around on the rocks to the right looking for interesting water patterns. This time I broke out the Lensball…
The Playground

I found a small crevice with water pooled in it that pointed right at the flow control gatehouse. My initial thought was to use the 40-150mm lens and grab a compressed view. This first image is the result. The sun managed to be looking out from behind the clouds at the time but I think it adds a little to the image. Although I was going for the compression the zoom lens creates and I love the colors, I wasn’t able to bring the Lensball into the frame any larger (this was due to where I needed the camera to get the angle I wanted).
Long Lens Look

The second attempt is with the wide angle lens placed about six inches from the Lensball. This allowed me to enlarge the look of the ball, bring in more of the background and capture some of the reflection of the Lensball in the water. I also provided some shade to reduce the glare. If you look close you can see my reflection in the Lensball… 🙂
