Winter Glass

Delta Lake State Park

I did forewarn everyone a few posts earlier that there would be an image from Saturday’s sunset with the Lensball. Walking around the upper picnic area at Delta Lake I found a tree stump with a rounded, crusty mound of snow that was the perfect perch for the Lensball. I wanted to capture the trees with the setting sun. I have always been fascinated with the silhouetted shape of trees in the winter. As much as I love the Autumn colors, the stark profile of the bare tree against a colorful background manages to pull me in every time.

Autumn Reflected

Big Brook Creek

I figured this weekend was the last hurrah for autumn colors. According to the foliage map most of NY State was near peak or beyond. Saturday morning was spent exploring a few state parks and the same plan was in affect for Sunday. The amount of fog threw me off Sunday morning. It put a short damper on my pans although I suppose it would have been worth the drive a little later in the morning.

I ended up following my morning routine for a Sunday with the breakfast and grocery route. Once that was done I spent a few hours at the house painting. By noon the sun was shining bright and the urge to capture more colors overtook me. I headed North along route 46 to hit my favorite section of Big Brook Creek along with Pixley Falls State Park. Both provided me the autumn colors I was looking to capture.

In Big Brook Creek I found a few pools of water to play with reflections. At first, it was straight up finding the best angle to place the camera and search out an interesting foreground subject. But once I brought out the Lensball, the concept of autumn colors in reflection jumped up a level. Here is the best one I found…

Another Lensball moment from my early morning excursion to Stow, NY while visiting my Mom. I definitely need to go looking for more lighthouses…

Watchguard

Delta Lake State Park

Sunday evenings and Delta Lake work for me. I think it is a combination of timing and weather but what ever it is, I am definitely enjoying my time late on Sunday. Either the temperature was cooler or people decided to wait until the holiday but the beach was all but empty. Barely a car in the parking lot and only a handful of people enjoying the sunset. There was some remnants of a sandcastle near one of the lifeguard stations so I used the mound of sand to prop up my Lensball. My goal was to incorporate the chair in the sunset. I think it worked out quite well…
