Bellamy Harbor Park, Rome, NY
I’m sure a big portion of my reasons for always going to Bellamy Harbor Park is the distance from my house. I can be here in fifteen minutes. But, it is also a great location for sunrise/sunset images as the canal is aligned East to West and as the sun traverses the seasons it will rise/set in different areas of the park. I suppose it doesn’t hurt that I’m a fan of water, reflections and silhouettes in my images…

The weather forecast was predicting rain for Sunday. I figured the clouds needed to start rolling in and was hoping they would make an appearance before sunset. Mother Nature did not disappoint me. I had an idea for a sunset image utilizing the Lensball and Delta Lake State Park was the best place to try it out. Pixley Falls State Park
I have to admit that I am a fan of processing my waterfall images as black & whites. To me, there is something clean and simple about the result that I really like. Today I am back at Pixley Falls (well, actually, I was there two weeks ago) with another image of the namesake waterfall. This view is slightly from the side which gives a good view of the water rushing over the edge rocks.
Waterfall images are all about the look of the falling water. You want a slow enough shutter to achieve the silky water look but still fast enough to retain definition in the flow. I don’t want it to be a blur of white, I want to be able to see the water.
