Other than a moment of sun a couple of days ago we have had only grey skies lately. I saw a message pop up in one of my streams that Disney has released the dates for the 2022 International Flower & Garden Festival. As much as I am still conflicted regarding Disney, I do love going down for that festival. All this had me searching my images from my trip last year.
This is from the morning of my last day at the resort. The sun was barely breaking the tops of the trees so you can see the orange skies starting to move in from the right. I love the small reflections in the water on the boardwalk. Overall, it was a quiet, peaceful morning before the madness of traveling back home. I need to schedule this year’s trip…

With the holiday and the weather I have not had a chance to get out with the camera the past few days. It’s OK though, it was a good couple of days. There is a weather warning for today, freezing rain with a little snow. I’ll probably stay inside once the yuckiness starts. We’ll see…

It is probably because it is easily accessible, but I find myself at Bellamy Harbor Park quite often. I started the day on Friday at the park for the sunrise. The clouds and the colors where amazing. I tried a few different angles, even venturing out into the new rock island that grew after all the rain this summer but ended up sticking my camera in the opening of the gate blocking my favorite location. I really like the curve of the water as well as the clouds. I found the image I wanted.

Sunset came and my first thought was to capture the rising moon. It is the December full moon, or Cold Moon if you look in the Farmer’s Almanac. The name is from the Mohawk tribe of the Iroquois which seems fitting considering where I live. The sunset would be about an hour after the moon rises which would allow me to capture the moon before the sky turned too dark. I needed some time to find the composition I wanted. As I walked around this opposite view of Bellamy Harbor Park caught my eye. It would be a good companion for my morning image.

I couldn’t resist using the water tower at the park again. With the brighter sky I felt I would have a good chance of showing more of the towers details as well as capture the details in the moon. I was even able to practice my patience as I needed to wait until the moon climbed higher in the sky. Using the long end of my 12-100mm lens I was able to isolate the tower and the moon against a beautiful blue sky. You can even see the old General Cable Corporation logon on the side of the water tower.

Overall, it was a great day! My plan was to go out on Saturday (today) morning to catch the moon as it was setting. I would be able to get some images at Delta Lake, but the snow moving in ended that plan. I’m thinking I might get one more chance on Sunday morning and if we do get some snow that might be a better image… 🙂
It has been quite a few weeks, five if I’m actually counting, since I have used my camera. I wasn’t feeling it. I could blame it on the weather but that would be the easy way out. I simply did not want to pick it up. I was positive it wasn’t the end of this journey but I knew forcing myself to “be creative” was not the way to go. So, I let the camera sit in the bag until I wanted to share again…
A lot has been happening. I have this week off. It wasn’t exactly planned but I am going to enjoy it. A couple weeks ago a new job opportunity came my way and I decided to follow it. This past Friday was my last day at my old job and next Monday will be the first at my new one. This new one is only five minutes from my place and I now will have an extra ninety minutes a day for myself. I’m excited, not only for the shorter commute but for the new challenges.
Waking up this morning I knew today was the day to find a new image. It wasn’t going to be that perfect sunrise but the process of getting back out with the camera was all I wanted to do. I stopped at Bellamy Harbor and played around before the sun peeked over the horizon. And really, before the clouds completely obscured the sky. ah, those Monday blues…
