Through The Glass – TTG06
Clayton, NY
I had the privilege of attending the wedding of a friend I worked with at my previous job this past weekend. The ceremony and reception were at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton, NY. Clayton is in the 1000 islands region of upstate New York and the hotel is right on the St. Lawrence river. It was a beautiful location.
I also had the opportunity to spend some time with another friend from my previous job and his wife. We all had a really good time. The wedding was great and the reception was a lot of fun with good food, music and amazing company. It was the sort of weekend I was looking for after a long summer. It also allowed my to grab some pictures of the area at sunset and sunrise. I have never been to the St. Lawrence river and it was better than I expected. Next time I go up North I will plan on exploring even more.

Delta Lake State Park
Labor Day weekend typically marks the end of the summer season at Delta Lake State Park. I’ll be going up to the 1000 Islands area of New York today for a wedding and will miss the annual bonfire on the beach but I did manage to get over to the park and capture a beautiful sunset image. The swimming goggles appear to have been washed up on the shore and they felt like a good statement for the image. Although there have not been a lot of people at the park when I go to find a sunset, after this weekend there will be even less. Next stop… Autumn.

Mother Nature and I have had a difficult relationship the past few days. Although she has been providing some nice weather she thinks it’s funny let the clouds roll in around sunset. I believe she knows I was looking for any excuse not to get off the couch… Last night I fooled her, the hot, humid day did not stop me from seeking out the sunset… clouds and all.
I had seen a similar picture with the Lensball to the one I captured below and I wanted to get my own version. I knew the perfect place. I drove down to Bellamy Harbor Park at the bottom of Rome to use the benches along the canal for my attempt. This is a good place for a couple of reasons, one, there generally is not a lot of people during the week and two, the benches are aligned East to West, which would allow me to include the setting sun in the picture. My timing was pretty good… 🙂
Delta Lake State Park
I promise I will not go crazy making images with the Lensball. But, like any kid with a new toy, I’m going to play…
The weather forecast was predicting rain for Sunday. I figured the clouds needed to start rolling in and was hoping they would make an appearance before sunset. Mother Nature did not disappoint me. I had an idea for a sunset image utilizing the Lensball and Delta Lake State Park was the best place to try it out. I was hoping for a little calmer waters but the gentle roll of waves coming to shore was not overwhelming. I had to be quick with the camera if I wanted a low enough angle. It worked out…
Barge Canal near the Utica Marsh
The other night when I went to the Utica Marsh for the sunset I ended up walking along the barge trail waiting for the sun to get into position. There is a lot of scenery to view along the trail but I am always drawn to the bridges, especially when there is such a great reflection on calm waters.
